Overview
HCLTech runs an ongoing campus hiring program called AMP (Ascend, Momentum, Polaris) — a merit-based hiring track for fresh engineering graduates where your skills, not your college tier, decide your starting salary. Off-campus candidates are explicitly eligible alongside on-campus hires, and the program has a clear three-tier salary structure that rewards strong performers early. This guide breaks down how AMP works, what the test involves, and how to apply.

Quick Facts
- Company: HCLTech
- Program: AMP — Ascend, Momentum, Polaris
- Eligibility: Engineering graduates (BE/B.Tech/ME/M.Tech, any branch)
- Off-Campus Eligible: Yes, explicitly
- Apply By: No fixed deadline — ongoing hiring program
How the Salary Structure Works
AMP uses a three-tier progression, and every candidate starts on equal footing regardless of which college they’re from:
- Ascend — ₹4.5 LPA (₹3.75 LPA for New Vistas locations: Lucknow, Nagpur, Vijayawada, Madurai): the starting offer for everyone who clears the selection process
- Momentum — ₹6.0 LPA: available to the top 10% of Ascend candidates based on further skill assessment
- Polaris — ₹10.0 LPA: the highest tier, reserved for standout performers among that top 10%
In short — everyone clears the same bar to get in, but how well you perform in the process directly determines which salary tier you land at.
Eligibility
- Engineering degree in any branch — B.E./B.Tech/M.E./M.Tech
- Minimum 70% aggregate throughout Class 10, Class 12, and graduation (65% for New Vistas locations: Lucknow, Nagpur, Vijayawada, Madurai)
- Open to both on-campus and off-campus candidates
Selection Process
The Ascend test runs across three stages:
- Cognitive Test (~90 minutes): Numerical, Verbal, and Reasoning ability
- Coding/Technical Test (60-90 minutes)
- Versant Test: assesses English speaking and listening proficiency; a score of 46-56 (B1 level) is required to qualify
Only candidates who clear the Cognitive and Coding tests move to the Versant Test. After that, candidates proceed to Technical and HR interviews. Off-campus and non-Primus-campus candidates go through mandatory pre-joining training with a post-training assessment — this is also your opportunity to potentially upgrade from Ascend to Momentum or Polaris based on performance.
